The greatest Christmas gift of all is Beyoncé’s unforgettable halftime performance and the iconic guests who shared the stage
On Wednesday, December 25, the superstar took the stage during the Ravens-Texans game in her hometown of Houston, Texas, for a spectacular performance called the “Beyoncé Bowl.” She arrived on a horse, wearing a white feathered gown and western hat and started with “16 Carriages.”
After gracefully dismounting her horse, the star walked through the back of the stadium, wearing a striking red, white, and blue ‘Cowboy Carter’ sash as she performed her powerful take on ‘Blackbird.” Suddenly, Beyoncé appeared in the middle of the field in a glittery bodysuit and chaps and performed “Ya Ya.”
The lights of “My House” were projected onto the stands, sending the crowd into a frenzy as Beyoncé marched to “Riverdance.” She walked onto a field adorned with a marching band, where she met Shaboozie, who features in her song “Sweet Honey Buckin’.”
The star-studded event was kicked off with Post Malone singing “Levi’s Jeans,” followed by Beyoncé singing “Jolene” while sitting on the back of a vintage truck.
She concluded with her hit song “Texas Hold ‘Em” and was soon joined by her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, whom she referenced in a discreet lyric when she sang: “Then turn me around in the middle, Blue, I can’t read your mind.” The mother-daughter duo performed an elaborate line dance before Beyoncé took the stage holding a banner that read “Bang.”
The performance was part of Netflix’s first NFL Christmas GameDay Under its agreement with the NFL, the Ravens-Texans game, as well as the Chiefs-Steelers game, will remain available to watch for three hours after the livestream ends. Therefore, the Ravens-Texans game will tip off around 11 p.m. ET.
The Christmas performance featured the live debut of songs from Beyoncé’s latest studio album Cowboy Carter, which features Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and more.
The “Cough It” singer first announced she was performing at the football game in a video shared on Instagram in November.
Starting with an a cappella version of her Cowboy Carter opener, “American Requiem,” Beyoncé stood in front of a microphone on top of a vintage car adorned with red roses before a spotlight shone on her.
Then, a football was thrown in front of her and the video showed a close-up shot of the musician dressed in a patriotic outfit and white cowboy hat. Then a title card shared more information about the upcoming performance.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé is performing for an NFL game. In 2013, the star headlined the Super Bowl halftime show and Destiny’s Child appeared on stage again.
Then, in 2016, he made a surprise appearance and sang “Formation” when Coldplay was the headline artist.
